5 tips for an outdoor space on a budget!
I shared a small snippet of our patio on Instagram and I got a million questions about it….
So I wanted to share all about it here and how we did it ON A BUDGET!!
If you have been here for a while you know I’m a big fan of DIY and thrifting. Yes, you could go out and buy brand new stuff and have a complete Instagram worthy patio in a matter of hours. First, that takes a toll on your bank account (and mostly ran through credit…..not a fan!). Second I’ve found its a lot easier to replace things the next year or even that same year if you’re used to just going out and buying it all.
However, if that’s what you like then you do you! This post just won’t help you out much!:)
The only thing we bought new for this space was the cushions! That’s it! Here are some of my best tips and tricks to create an awesome outdoor space without the huge price tag!
Shop your house/ use what you have.
Those pillows on the couch…they actually belong in my master bedroom. However, when people come over that door is already shut and if we are hanging out outside its a nice day so why not move things around and use what you have! No one will notice the pillows missing from my bed and they look great out here! The rugs & plants are also from inside… the rugs had taken a major beating and weren’t really useable inside anymore but they make PERFECT outdoor rugs!
2. Use it year after year.
The cushions both here and on the table set we have will be used for years!!! I got neutral colors so they wouldn’t “go out of style” and if we take care of them there will be no need to replace!
My favorite way to clean these is by using Naturally It’s Clean laundry stain remover. It keeps these white cushions super clean and helps me not be so “uptight” about little mishaps because…. hello we have 4 small children. White with kids is normally a no-no!
I honestly don’t have to worry about it though! If something spills I can just spray it on and wash it off! Super easy!!
If you wanna try it out for your outdoor area or for everyday laundry they are on amazon & I have an awesome code for you to use! 10KathB4
3. Thrift Thrift Thrift
I seriously can’t stress this enough! People sell patio sets all the time (it’s just a matter of being quick enough!) Set some alerts on your phone and pretty much stalk goodwill if you are looking for outdoor furniture. They go quickly, but most of the time they go cheap! Plus even rusty and old sets can be easily spruced up with just a quick coat of spray paint! Side note: my favorite buying and selling app is Veragesale! It’s super user friendly and they have a lot of great stuff! We thrifted these awesome poufs and the fireplace!!! I have always wanted a fancy fireplace but couldn’t afford the price tag, it may have taken longer than I’d like but my bank account didn’t have to suffer!
4. DIY
I love a good DIY project! The couch and chairs were both DIY! I saw instagram.com/steffianglewood make these chairs and I was instantly in love!! The tutorial we used was from Angela Marie Made here is the link!
One thing I will say is PICK YOUR CUSHIONS FIRST!!!! We built these just like her tutorial and could not find cushions that fit. The ones she had used were out of stock and there weren’t any others that fit so we had to buy some super pricey ones and then cut them to size. Not exactly what we had planned but that’s the nature of a DIY. Target & lowes both have pretty reasonably priced cushions…so make sure to pick them out and build around that!
5. Shop the seasons
late spring/ early fall is the BEST time to patio shop! Doesn’t matter if you are looking to thrift or purchase in-store they will both have the best deals! Stores are looking to get rid of inventory and people are looking to save some storage space! TAKE ADVANTAGE! It kinda stinks to not be able to use it for another year, but you will thank yourself come next spring!
Hopefully, you found some useful tips for creating your outdoor space without a huge price tag. I am a big believer in slow and steady wins the race… in life as well as in-home design. Each space should be created out of intent instead of just what you can buy at the store.
I would love to see your outdoor areas!!
Tag me on Instagram and I’ll share them with everyone!
I hope you are having a great day!
